Entry requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Geography or Physical Geography.
  • Bachelor degrees in related disciplines such as Geosciences, Biology, Hydrology, Soils Sciences, Landscape Ecology etc. may also be accepted after assessment by the admissions comittee, where necessary after entrance exams or with additional requirements.
  • An overall grade of 2.5 or better composed of the following components:
    - (German equivalent of) grade of Bachelor degree: 70%
    - grade given by the Examination Board for the motivation letter: 30%

Foreign applicants need to present proof of DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang), a language proficiency test for admission to higher education.

Course schedule

The Master course in Physical Geography starts in winter term (usually mid October) and runs for four semesters (2 years). Application deadline ist July 15. The course can also be started in summer term (usually mid April); however, due to the structure of the curriculum we cannot guarantee that it is possible to complete the course within 4 semesters if it is started in summer term. Summer application deadline is January 15.

Language of teaching

Please note that the courses are nearly exclusively taught in German language. Fluency of German in speaking, reading and writing is imperative.
