In the Urban Studies profile students focus on the specific organization of politics, economy and society in and between cities and metropolitan regions. Cities are the epicentres of local and global exchange of goods, information, labor and knowledge; they are the condensation of cultural forms and political conflict.

In this profile students will review the developments that have contributed to the rise of the significance of cities and urban regions in the global age and the dynamics that keep them alive. Understanding cities as focal points of societal conflict and local nodes in a network of global flows, students will be exposed to a range of concepts and theories from human geography and related social science disciplines.
